Academic Misconduct At Keiser University & College Handbook.

Published

on

College is different from what it was in the past. You’ll be shocked if you show up at college on the first day with only a few films as reference points: Animal House, Old School and Road Trip.

Schools take academic integrity very seriously these days. It is easy to understand why. Reputation is not just crucial for the school. It is also essential for students. It’s easy for businesses to hire students from schools known for cheating.

However, universities are sometimes right. Schools may make misguided accusations. Schools can sometimes impose harsher sanctions than they should.

Do everything possible to avoid academic misconduct. You don’t have the right to be silent if you are accused. You have rights and can defend your integrity.

How Keiser University defines academic misconduct

The policy of Keiser University on academic misconduct starts reasonably broadly, with a statement about “ethical principles” and then moves into details with a list of specific violations. The school’s two most serious offences are listed at the beginning.

Acquiring or giving information dishonestly: This is what the school means by “cheating.” Simply put, academic misconduct can be a charge of getting or giving away unauthorized course materials. This includes cheating in the traditional sense, such as looking at another person’s paper while taking an exam or stealing the test copy from the professor’s office. You can also use more advanced techniques, such as elaborate texting schemes.

Plagiarism is: Many people recognize that copying a term paper from another person and then submitting it as your own is dishonest. Keiser University prohibits plagiarism in all work submitted for credit. This includes papers, computer code, and works of art. Students are forbidden from offering the same position to more than one class.

Keiser University is so severe about plagiarism that it has outlined specific penalties for work that is either “partially plagiarized” or “entirely Plagiarized”.

Although most of the academic violations on Keiser’s remaining list are procedural, they could lead to just as severe penalties.

  • Facilitation: Helping another person cheat is a type of misconduct.
  • Conspiracy: You can be punished if you conspire with others to cheat, even if the plan doesn’t work out.
  • You can also misuse resources by writing in books or worse. It can get you into trouble.
  • Falsifying records: Keiser mentions forging signatures on official university documents such as drop/add forms or doctor’s notes. Some instructors may also charge students for dishonestly signing a friend’s name on the attendance sheet.

The Resolution Process

Students at Keiser University have limited rights in resolving allegations of academic misconduct. The school stresses the “chain of command” and points out that faculty members have the first level of discipline. In other words: instructors have broad authority to make allegations and assign penalties as they wish.

The policy also states that instructors may “impose” sanctions, such as failing assignments, failing course grades, or dismissal from the university.

Students who disagree with an instructor’s decision are encouraged to contact the Dean of Academic Affairs. However, the policy does not provide any specific explanation.

Students have the option of requesting a grievance hearing as a last resort. Again, this documentation could be more specific about how these hearings are conducted. It doesn’t even mention who sits on the grievance panel, i.e. who decides these cases. It does, however, outline the procedure in detail.

  • The Director of Student Services introduces the student.
  • The student is allowed to present their case in 10 minutes and any documentation or other evidence.
  • Panel members can then ask students questions.
  • A representative from the university has 10 minutes to present their case
  • The student may give a 3-minute response.
  • A representative can present a 3-minute response to the rebuttal.
  • Panel members can then ask the representative questions.
  • After the hearing, the panel members will have 72 hours to consider the case and decide for the respondent.

Attorney Joseph D. Lento Can Help

When professors accuse students of academic misconduct, they often think they don’t have any options or are limited. Professors have all the power. Their decisions are unquestioned and can be challenged. Accepting a penalty, especially if it’s relatively mild, is more accessible than trying to rock the academic boat.

Even a tiny allegation of academic misconduct could permanently mark your academic record. You could lose scholarship money or have your application rejected if you admit to the unfair accusation or accept an unsportsmanlike penalty.

You have rights. Even though you may have violated the law, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should be subject to unfair penalties. You have the right to speak up. It is essential to speak up.

Announce Expanding Efforts to Address Critical Shortage of Operating room Nurses

Chamberlain University is the nation’s largest nursing school. The Association of periOperative Nurses (AORN) creates evidence-based guidelines for perioperative practice and education resources. Today, three healthcare systems announced that they would join a workforce readiness initiative to address critical shortages of operating room nurses. They are Loyola Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, Ochsner Health in New Orleans, and Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.

AORN and Chamberlain will jointly launch an online 16-week training module for perioperative nurses. The content was developed by AORN and is available through Chamberlain. It leads to a speciality badge. This program, which aligns with AORN-specific competencies in the perioperative industry, will be offered to Chamberlain students at no cost.

Chamberlain and the three healthcare systems will join forces to offer students on-site experiences in a supervised perioperative setting.

We are pleased to welcome these three prestigious healthcare systems. They join AORN University and Chamberlain University in a national effort to address critical workforce requirements in the perioperative setting. This is Chamberlain’s “Practice Ready” initiative. Specialty Focused” approach to addressing essential workforce requirements in the perioperative setting,” stated Karen Cox, PhD., president of Chamberlain.

This educational initiative is the first of its kind and is being offered in partnership with AORN. AORN developed the training module. The intent is to scale Chamberlain’s speciality badge program through Chamberlain.

Linda Groah (MSN, RN), CNOR, NEA-BC, FAAN CEO/executive director of AORN, stated that she believes strongly in the initiative’s expansion through the participation of these three healthcare systems.

Representatives from the healthcare system said they are open to working with Chamberlain, AORN and other nurses to increase the number of nurses who specialize in perioperative nursing.

“Ochsner Health couldn’t be more excited about participating in this innovative program to introduce more students to the wonderful world of perioperative services while also addressing the need to have more operating nurses in other parts of the Gulf South,” stated Tracey Moffatt (System Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Quality, Ochsner Health).

“This initiative addresses a critical need to have more nurses with a perioperative speciality, and it aligns our commitment to providing high-quality patient service in Chicago,” stated Peggy Norton-Rosko, DNP, RN. NEA-C regional chief nursing officer at Loyola Medicine.

Sharon Pappas, PhD, is the chief nurse executive at Emory Healthcare. She stated, “Identifying and preparing perioperative nursing nurses in their early stages of education and career is a proactive approach towards supporting quality health care for students in the metro Atlanta region.”

The program’s speciality badges are designed to build a pool of perioperative nurses. Also known as operating room nurses and surgical nurses, they work with patients during the pre-and post-operative processes and afterwards in post-anaesthesia care units. The State of the Perioperative Nursing Specialty Workforce 2021 Research Paper outlines how academic partnerships can be used to address retention and recruitment issues and cost-effectiveness. According to the research paper, it can cost as much as $120,000 to train and prepare new perioperative nurses1.

According to AORN, the increased number of surgeries and the nationwide shortage of qualified nurses will lead to a greater need for perioperative nursing staff. According to AORN data, 20% of operating room nurses will reach retirement age in the next five years. Chamberlain is part of Adtalem Global Education (NYSE: ATGE) in Chicago. It will offer the speciality badge program at its campuses in Chicago, Tinley Park and Addison, Ill., as well as New Orleans, New Orleans, and Atlanta.
